Review on Mount Double Socket Swivel 1 Inch by Reginald Truitt

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much better than traditional RAM mounts.

I got this lever as a replacement for the short single-lever shifter, also from Ram. This lever is much better. While a control on the other lever allowed quicker adjustments to settings, it was more difficult to manage when everything was released at once. With individual controls, it's easy to set everything up in the right places. It takes a little time to loosen and tighten the three different controls, but the extra flexibility makes up for it (literally) - and not by much. Now I can place my devices exactly where I need them and not "somehow" there. My only minor complaint is that this device isn't metal like my other hand. It's very, very strong plastic so should hold up, but I'd prefer the uncompromising strength of metal. I highly doubt this device will be more prone to breakage, but these aren't cheap mounts. In fact it was as much or more than the cost of my metal. It's not so much that I feel like it's poorly made, but that I feel like I'm cutting costs. However, I've had other devices (non-ram mounts) that used poor quality metal that ended up shearing off. because it is too fragile. So sometimes plastic works just as well or even better than cheap metal. Long-term use will determine what applies to Ram. Despite the plastic form, it definitely looks well made. However, the inserts for the control knobs are metal, so the parts that are most likely to break are more durable. Assuming you don't put undue strain on your hand, the cuffs that go over the ball joints should hold up fairly well - even with rough use - due to their robust thickness. So I'm not willing to deduct stars unless the thing really breaks. I'm more disappointed than worried about this.

Pros
  • car mounts
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
