Well, grating takes practice. Seems to work better if you drag the cheese across it in one direction. I have an old, battered grater that had a broken handle and small holes that grated Parmesan cheese well. This one has big holes, but it grates the parmesan into small chips - if you drag the cheese across it in one direction. I like going back and forth to get work done. I don't like this grater, I just don't like how it's supposed to grate cheese. It seems more problematic to me. It washes well and the grater lid allows you to toss it in the kitchen utensil drawer and not worry about scratching your fingers/hand while scavenging the drawer for the odd item or two that might go in the kitchen utensil drawer drawer can reach.
