Works out of the box on my fancy system (2006 MacPro 1.1 "Cheese Grater" with Ubuntu 16.04LTS - I've had problems with other USB devices but not this one). A USB extender and dock can be very useful if you are using this with a desktop computer as you have the best opportunity to position the Wi-Fi receiver in line of sight with the router. Unfortunately, as much as I love this product, I have to return it because it wasn't what I needed for the app (facebook live streaming computer for church services). After a crushing failure with several other Wi-Fi adapters, this Panda seemed to work well in test streams with fewer people in the building (although the router's signal had to go through three walls - 2 plaster, 1 brick); However, on the couple of Sundays leading up to Christmas we had a large crowd at church and adding in all the extra people moving around proved too big a hurdle for implementing a Wi-Fi solution. I ended up replacing it with a 100ft. Cat 6 cable that gave us the reliability we needed for broadband activities like live broadcasting. Before returning this product, I wanted to leave a review as the return is not related to any quality issue or dissatisfaction on my part. I appreciate Panda Wireless' focus on the Linux user community - it's nice when simple, handy things like Wi-Fi adapters work well out of the box without causing unforeseen problems.
