Okay, this may sound strange, but listen to me. I bought these to keep dirt out of drains that used to be very difficult to clean and keep flowing. Removed the previous drain mechanism and boom, put those bad guys in. No more blockages. So that we understand each other. These things hold water, and obviously if you remove them, it's going to be a direct hit to the entire drain pipe with no barrier. The problem is that they clog themselves. Even as a short haired man living alone, I mostly found these things filled after 2-3 showers. Soap, fibers from clothing, and other debris clog the screen so badly it can't be easily wiped off with a finger. I must have a wire brush handy to clean the screen! It's hard to tell how it _should_ style instead, but it's one of those things that I find myself thrashing about - trading one problem for another. I can imagine this becoming a daily struggle in a house with lots of people, especially long haired bathers.
