It was exactly what I expected after reading the description. I bought two OXO Good Grips, one with a stainless steel base and one with a white plastic base. These are almost identical dishes. There are additional markings for tablespoons on the white plastic base. Both work very well and keep the butter clean (as long as your knife is clean, folks!). I use plastic utensils for butter that is never refrigerated (kept at room temperature between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit). I use stainless steel cookware. for chilled butter. My logic is that sharper knives are used with more power in cold butter and stainless steel holds up better than plastic. However, stainless steel does not protect the knife blade. Both bowls are easy to clean and stay nice and clean thanks to 4 sticks. However, care must be taken when sealing softened butter. And I pour cool oil on the dishes so that this work doesn't get dirty.
