Review on πŸ”§ Pro-Tuff Ratchet Drive Filter Wrench: Plews 70-635, 3/8" with 1" Band - Efficient Filter Removal Tool by Greg Bellman

Works in tight spaces

This is a decent (specialty) filter wrench that works in tight spaces where a normal handle wrench would not fit. I mostly use it under a car/pickup. I use a long 3/8 inch extension and a ratchet wrench to get at the filter. It can be a bit tricky to get everything in the right place and then turn the ratchet. Sometimes I have to hold the filter wrench with my free hand (on the filter) until it achieves enough friction to clamp the filter securely. From there, it often takes several turns of the wrench (sometimes putting it back on the filter multiple times) to remove the filter. Same procedure to install a new filter. Lubricate the gasket with oil, then hand tighten and finish tightening with a wrench. This stylish wrench isn't much fun, but it works where others fail. The quality is average, similar to keys in an auto parts store. I have several oil filter wrenches in my collection and they all have a purpose. This one has saved my bacon a few times. Worth the cost to have another option available.
