Review on πŸ›΅ GY6 Engine Rebuild Kit 150cc Big Bore Cylinder Head Chinese Scooter - GOOFIT 57.4mm Bore Cylinder Kit by Puggzy Wallin

This kit seems great for the price and content, but the quality is terrible.

This set seems like great value for money considering the price and the contents. Not sure why there are so many positive reviews, either some kits are good and some bad, or they never installed them, not sure. When I opened the box, the first thing that alarmed me was that the piston was stuck in the cylinder with no lubrication. Fortunately, the cylinder wall was not scratched during transport. There were no instructions included with the kit. This wasn't a big problem as I've rebuilt some top ends and it's pretty easy. I really wanted to know what the gap at the end of the ring should be and where the rings should be synced (the gaps are located). This was easy to find on the internet so it's not a problem. The real problem is either in the rings or in the cylinder. Either the rings are too small or the cylinder is too big. When checking the annular gap, the best was 0.012 and the worst was well over 0.020, which is too much. I thought maybe they should be lengthened or something, so I installed them and reassembled everything, making sure the cam timing was correct. After everything was assembled properly and the valve clearances set, I ran it. The engine started immediately, but noticeably burned too much oil right from the start. I've let it warm up but it's still eating oil like crazy. Although it's very cheap for what you get, you're wasting all your money. Machining tolerances are terrible, don't buy this kit. Update: I contacted the seller and explained the problem. They said to lubricate the rings well. Serious? This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of their product. The problem isn't that the rings are difficult to fit into the cylinder (all rings are a little tricky) but that the rings are too small and leave a big gap in the cylinder where the two ends meet. This allows the oil to enter the combustion chamber and burn out, creating heavy exhaust smoke. Another reason why the gap at the end of the ring can be too big is if the cylinder bore is too big. I wasn't sure what the problem was, but I took a chance and ordered a piston and ring set from another supplier because it was only $9.99. I removed the piston from this kit and tested new rings from another supplier in the cylinder from this kit. The end gap was almost perfect, just a little small which is perfect. Now I know for sure that the rings included in this set are too small. There are other positive reviews as well so like I said above maybe there are some good kits out there and mine is just a piece of crap. Everything else in this kit, except for the piston and rings, is still installed and working properly. If you like rolling dice you can try this set but I wouldn't do it. Here is a piston that has performed well: Glixal ATMT1-040 GY6 150cc 57.4mm Piston Kit with Rings for Scooter 157QMJ, Moped, Quad, Kart JONWAY, JMSTAR, ROKETA, SUNL, TANK, PEACE, TAOTAO, Dongfang, Kazuma, JCL.
