Chain breaking tool fell apart after a few uses, read instructions carefully

It's been a while since I've had to break a chain to fix a rear bearing. The chain break tool worked fine but after removing the second link it fell apart. After finding all the pieces I was able to put it back together, but I don't think it should have fallen apart in the first place. Read the instructions carefully on which links to remove if you're new to this or it's been a while.
