I took an unformatted internal drive for my laptop and connected it to my linux machine with this cable. The system recognized it immediately. So easy! I then used some linux tools (gparted, dd) to mirror my current laptop drive to this one. Excellent! I really like the product because it only does one thing and does it very well. When plugged into a mini-SATA port, it feels like a solid connection, not a weak one. The cable is fairly short (6 inches) so you should have room for a SATA drive during operation.
