This is a heavy coat but it is in 2 parts so it can be easily removed to check the animal's condition. The inside is smooth but not glazed. Outside and the ramp has a rough texture. A small part of the edge of the lid was broken off upon arrival, and there is also a chip on the outside of the lid. This probably happened on the way as the box this item came in was upside down in the large outer box and the broken pieces were in the box. I decided to keep this item as it left no sharp edges to injure my snake. My snake is a 4 foot adult male California Kingsnake that fits into the skin leaving a bit more room. I like the way this skin looks in an aviary and since it has a floor it can be used with wet moss as a humidity box.
