Review on πŸ–₯️ BenQ GL2480 1920X1080, Flicker-Free Monitor by Scott Lesperance

Price yes, great picture yes, but even in this price range there are few compromises.

These monitors seem like a good choice at this price point. Right from the start they create a very beautiful image with rich colors that are pleasing to the eye. However, they have three downsides, one of which I feel completely contradicts. Drawback #1 - Colors will be distorted when viewed from an angle. While the colors were rich (and better than previous monitors) with NVidia graphics on my old laptop, they were no better with Intel graphics on my new laptop. Cons #2 - For me this was a fatal error and required me to return these monitors. Monitors do NOT turn off properly. If you set the system to turn off the display after X minutes, the monitors should not detect a signal and turn off. I have used many makes and models of monitors between home and work and this is the first monitor that has NOT shut down properly. I have Windows 7 64 bit. a system with nvida with DVI, a system with Intel graphics with HDMI. I first tried both connected with the default settings. Then I tried to set HDMI to Auto. then tried with DVI only laptop. then with HDMI only laptop. In every combination of configurations I tried, the monitors NEVER turned off properly. You constantly have a popup with a signal loss message. Then switch to standby mode for a few seconds, then turn the device back on and try again. It's terrible! Cons #3 - This was a major inconvenience for me when using TWO monitors on one computer. The controls are on the back right, which means you can't reach them on the left monitor when using dual monitors (unless you leave a couple of inches between them). Monitors also do not switch automatically when one of the computers goes into sleep mode. It always requires manual switching (unlike previous monitors) and requires *4* button presses to toggle between inputs. then *4* more on another monitor. I would only recommend this monitor if you don't need to switch inputs and power off your system with a power strip. otherwise it's just PITA. My suggestion is that BenQ needs to fix these problems if they are to compete for enterprising customers.
