Insulates and protects the floor covering.

Under the laminate in our living room there is nothing but a sheet of plastic and a cold concrete floor. It gets very cold in the winter. I have this along with an inexpensive 8'x10' for a number of reasons. Bought: 1. To insulate the floor a bit and reduce the cold underfoot 2. To keep the carpet from scratching our new floor 3. To protect the floor in case our dog has an emergency (We have them in a Hard floor house potty trained so as a pup she felt the mats could be replaced with grass and thus an acceptable place to pee.She hasn't had an accident in a couple of years but never hasn't 4th to one To add some softness to relatively thin rug (I didn't want to splurge on a nice plush rug because I wasn't sure how the aforementioned dog would react to it), although I've had no problems with a dog, ie he used the rug as a bathtub so I can't confirm how waterproof it is. It's two pieces taped together and some people have mentioned some issues with bad tape. Mine was glued very smoothly, so maybe the seller responded to the feedback. It turned out to be too big and very thick so I had to trim the edges a bit so the lining wasn't showing under the rug. It is better to have it larger than smaller, however, as it will ensure that it will fit under most rugs, which are approximately 8ft by 10ft. I wonder how well it works when it comes to keeping the rug from slipping. It wasn't my top priority, but it would have been nice not to have to fix the carpet all the time. In any case, the underside of the mat, which lacks a "protective membrane”, adheres well to the floor. However, the membrane itself that comes in contact with the carpet is quite slippery. I thought about adding some carpet anchors or some lines with a glue gun to keep it from slipping. However, I am satisfied with my purchase. It's expensive, especially considering the cost of the carpet, but I'm hoping the extra insulation and floor protection will pay off.

Pros
  • Dense viscoelastic memory foam cushion for a soft underfoot. Full lining 3/8" thick.
Cons
  • For old
