It was announced in Spring 2020 that our communal pool would be closed indefinitely and certainly all summer due to the Coronavirus. So instead I found a small above ground pool for our backyard and figured out how to heat it (using a submersible water pump to circulate water through an electric water heater). But there's one thing I haven't spent a lot of time on, and that's how to control the pumping process. I usually just guessed when the temperature would be right, then ran out and checked the thermometer in the pool. If I guessed right, I would have turned off the pump. If I got it wrong on the cool side, I just let it run a little longer. If I accidentally forgot to check we would have had a jacuzzi, which usually meant the pool could not be used until it cooled down on its own. I mean, who wants to dive into 95 degree water when it's 95 degrees outside! So I was thinking about how to master the pumping process once and for all and while looking for a submersible probe controller that would withstand chlorinated water, I came across this article. And I have to say I'm very impressed. First, the build quality is exceptionally good. I mean at the highest level. The most important thing for me was probably the accuracy of the temperature sensor and as far as I can tell from the analog pool thermometer it works great. As you can see from my photos, we like our pool to be around 90 degrees, which might be a bit warmer for some of you (and me, to be honest) but my cold hearted wife wants 90 degrees. so it's going to be 90. Well, as you can also see, I haven't set the temperature to turn the heat power on and off yet (that's the only power I want to use for this application). The pool was already heated today, so that will be a task for tomorrow. I don't expect any problems - the process seems pretty intuitive - but I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything along the way to a stumbling block. I downloaded and installed the optional Smart Life app on my phone, but set up the device through it without creating an account. Also, I'd get the app directly from the App Store - the QR code in the user guide tells you to go to a third-party site to download it, and you definitely don't want to do that! The device was simply added to the app after I figured out how to start pairing, which may or may not be detailed in the manual. I could well imagine it, but after a failed first try and restarting the device using the power button (which is detailed in the manual), I'm pretty sure I'm getting the fast-flashing WiFi icon that the app was expecting have. (Caution: only slightly faster than blink reset) by long pressing the configuration button. As I said, this might be my imagination, but if you're having trouble connecting your device to the app, you can try. Overall, I give this device very good ratings and recommend it for purchase.
