If you're into the new knitting trend, you need these needles! They are of very good quality: smooth wood with a nickel bond and flexible wire. I've used them to make thick knitted blankets and they work great. You can use bulky yarn or extra heavyweight yarn or, like I did, sew 3 strands of worsted yarn together. Bulky yarn and big needles like this make knitting super fast - instant gratification for a busy seamstress :) I made a baby blanket in just 2 hours. And a full size throw for an extra long single bed in less than 3 days! These needles are way better than some of the other giant needles on the market that have plastic needles and thin wire. I used to struggle with a pair like this because the wire would sometimes slip off the needle and the yarn would get caught on the plastic needle. However, this is very different. They have a very secure needle-to-wire connection and a smooth nickel that allows the knitting material to slide off the knitting needle without jamming. The only difficulty is that when knitting, holding large knitting needles in your hands can be a bit difficult. Even for an experienced knitter, it takes a little practice. And it can be a bit slow at first. But as in any craft, "practice makes perfect”. This type of knitting requires a lot of yarn, but you can use cheap worsted acrylic, 2-3 strands together, and make something very voluminous and fashionable in no time. :)
