First, it's cast iron, so it's heavy compared to other materials. Yes, it's a bit rough, but no more than my Lodge pan. I bought this primarily to replace the square teflon pan I used for pancakes to avoid non-stick coatings. I seasoned it in the oven according to directions and had absolutely no problems with the first batch of pancakes I made with it. I use it on a glass hob and its excellent distribution is excellent. I bought this pan at a great price during the Black Friday promotion and am very happy with the purchase. I will also use it for small pizzas in the oven. Definitely a good buy and an alternative to other brands if you buy it at the right price.
