I received this for an atypical application - to cool a hard drive that might fail. I have an old 3 1/2 inch hard drive with some important information that wasn't fully backed up. The last time I used it in an external enclosure to view the contents of the hard drive, I noticed the hard drive was getting VERY hot. So I turned it off until I found a way to cool it down. This came in the form of an old CPU fan and heatsink that I rubber banded to the drive, and a pea-sized bead of that heatsink grease to draw heat away from the drive. sincerely and let me back up the data before the drive fails completely. It's always nice to have some on hand when the CPU or fan needs some TLC. Should have enough left over for the next emergency repair!
