Review on Mounteen Navigation Starboard Pontoons Chandlery by Jeff Vasquez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Side mount only! Not waterproof. If sealed then maybe ok.

Let's be clear where they should be used: on the sides of the bow of the boat NOT on the deck as per the instructions, in one of the pictures and as shown in several reviews. Only then are they correctly visible to other boats. As for the waterproof claim, not for a second. Yes the base has a seal when the lens is pressed against it which is nice. But there is a hole in the lens to install the whole light, and water can easily get into the center of the light. Also, there are 4 holes in the base, one for a mounting screw, one for wires and 2 for unknown purposes. They all sit on a rubber pad between the light and the surface it's placed on, but it doesn't compress enough to close the holes. Finally, the LEDs, 8 groups of 3, are bright but not flooded. If water gets in there, and it does, they won't be powered for long, especially in a salty environment. I plan on caulking the knot all over when installing, leaving the drain down and hoping for the best. I started dyno testing to check for early failures before putting them on my boat.

Pros
  • Easy Install: The easiest, cleanest install ever. All you need is a cable for installation, rubber mounting grommets are included. Then this is the best boat lighting you will ever buy.
Cons
  • New competitors have arrived
