The saying "The best thing since sliced bread" should now be replaced with "The best thing since the invention of the fridge!" And I mean it as deeply as praise! I've struggled with traditional plastic ice cube trays for the past few years. The ice cream was difficult to get out of the trays and I spent several minutes turning the trays back and forth to get them to loosen. I ended up resorting to rinsing the back of the tray with hot water, but when I put the ice in bags the cubes froze into a solid piece because it was inevitable that it would drain off when I used the water to loosen the ice cube used. No matter how well I dry the tray, you won't be able to dehydrate the ice as well as you think! So no matter how hard I tried, I would still end up with a giant piece of ice cream! It used to not be such a problem but about ten years ago some health issues as well as my forties made it an unbearable routine! Sometimes it was literally impossible to get out, so I lost ice trays every day. If you're using purified water to make ice cream, you can't afford to just throw it away every day, and I hated wasting the resources we use so generously in this country. Enter silicone ice molds! I've wanted them for years, but there was never a good time to invest in expensive ice cube trays when it seemed like there was always something else eating up my disposable income. I finally decided to get myself a Christmas present this year and it's the best decision I've ever made! Despite my arthritic hands/wrists that also suffer from tenosynovitis, I can pop ice out of these bowls with ease and much faster than I thought! I no longer have to beg people to put ice in my bags!
