This video doorbell far outperforms the Ring devices we've worked with in the past. Many other features including a user controlled siren, accurate person detection, user definable detection zones and programmable button backlight and night light. Having installed other video door entry systems in the past, installation should have been easy, but it is not. Our new house has high ceilings (11 feet) and the builder decided to install an internal horn at the very top above the kitchen cabinets. It was out of reach for my small career ladder. So I installed the doorbell outside after measuring the applied voltage to be 21 1/2 volts AC. But the device never fully initialized and only booted up only to fail and keep trying. WiFi was strong at this location. Brought the device inside and plugged it into the 5V DC USB jack. Voila, it worked great! I called Lorex tech support (offshore in the Philippines) and they told me the problem is that I need to install the ringer module first to make it work with my existing doorbell system. A friend came with a big ladder, installed a bell module in the bell unit, but still doesn't work! I studied it on the internet and saw a reference to the need for at least 30 or 40VA of power. My transformer in the garage was only designed for 10 VA. So, I got a new 24 Volt 40 VA transformer, installed it and everything works great! I wish the Lorex techs were aware of this as it's probably confusing a lot of people. The best thing about a doorbell? NO FEES FOR KEEPING AND ACCESSING YOUR RECORDINGS! And it's a much faster response time than any Ring doorbell, it alerts my phone almost instantly. I love this thing!
