Review on Broan SR111630 Lamp Socket Assembly by David Nelson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A perfect match for the original

Sockets in the original assembly began to fail due to a combination of heat from 50w halogen lamps, vibration from a fan and heat from a stove. As the cooker hood was bought 9 years ago I wasn't too upset that the lighting unit had to be replaced. The installation process was pretty easy. Disconnect the old assembly, extract it and install the new assembly. One thing to watch out for is where the wiring goes. If you don't operate it in exactly the right spot, there's a chance the fan will hit the cables. Just be careful with the installation. Just a moment. When we bought this range hood only 50w halogen bulbs were available. However, LED lamps are available today that only consume about 9 watts - significantly cheaper than halogen lamps. LED light is comparable to halogen in quality and colour. The big difference is that LEDs emit virtually no heat. This significantly extends the life of the sockets. Another note: Although the manufacturer does not specifically recommend LEDs, we have not had any problems with them.

Pros
  • Outstanding overall performance
Cons
  • Vulgarity
