Here's how to deal with a gypsy woman

later The most important thing to know about this pattern is that it's completely different from the usual quilt-in-a-day patterns that are popular today most common occurrence. Jen Kingwell's approach is to create each block separately (no 'fold and hit') and then meticulously combine them. The final construction is a bit of a logic puzzle to decipher where the blocks will go (and in some cases decide which block looks best where). This is very much a "slow sewing project" and it's a beautiful feat to complete. It fits the very confident beginner I was. Here's how to do it: - You should find other quilters who have done this to give you help and advice. There are various quilts on the web, just google it. There are also Facebook groups with great additional resources.- After you've seen hundreds of finished GWs, the crappy they look, the better they look. Use what you like - it will look great with so many items. - Pay attention to those vertical stripes - each one should be the same fabric from top to bottom. - Use a designer wall! You can just take a cheap gray massage sheet and tape or tape it to the wall. You can also use Smash if you have a backup. If you can, leave your design wall open as you sew the blocks together so you can see how they fit together. Kingwell's approach to building blocks can be a bit idiosyncratic. The new edition doesn't have as many bugs as some say, but there are a few blocks of descriptions that could certainly be clearer. Google is your friend - if you create a block you don't really like, save it - you can use it on the back or in another quilt. Just redo it with the insights gained. If you love the look of this blanket as much as I do, jump in. It's a journey for sure, but you'll be glad you completed it! And if you're really stuck, just make one of the smaller subsections and call it a lap blanket. It will still be amazing. Much luck! If you like, tag me in the Gypsy Wife Facebook group!
