Big difference between Sata 2 and Sata 3 with my Samsung EVO SSD

I have a MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard and I'm using Phenom II x6 1090t OC processor at 3.7/ Turbo 4.1 with CPU voltage 1.38. I also have 16GB of 1600 RAM and a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. . The motherboard supports SATA 2 and USB 2. I read the reviews on this SATA 3 card and downloaded the drivers and executable from the Startech website. I then went to the Marvel website and downloaded their drivers. I put the card in the PCIe Gen 2 16 slot, booted it up and ran the Startech installer. I then updated the driver from the Marvel download. I turned off the computer, connected the SSD cable to the card and restarted. I didn't even have to tell my bios what to do. It assumes I still want to boot from my Samsung EVO SSD. My SSD is faster and very smooth as it uses most of its SATA 3 capabilities. However, I also added a USB 3.0 card to back up my external hard drive and found that Windows 7 recognizes my boot SSD as a SCSI Drive looks and asks if I want to remove it when I turn off external drive backup. So be careful when removing an external drive. My 18" SATA cable was stretched and I replaced it with a 24" cable. This is a great upgrade for a 10 year old desktop. The Phenom ii x6 Black 1090t and 1100t have been favored by many over the next two generations of AMD processors, so the SATA 3 upgrade is very fast. If you are in a similar situation, I recommend trying it. It looks like the key is to get the latest drivers.

Pros
  • 4 Ports PCI Express SATA III 6GB
Cons
