Review on πŸ”Œ High-Performance 12V Temco 250 Amps Winch Motor Reversing Solenoid Relay Switch: Boosted Contactor for Efficient Operation by Ronny Prather

Revainrating 3 out of 5

For occasional use only.

I had two errors but they are ok. The relay fulfills its task as an open center reversing relay. The wiring is easy to understand and can withstand the rated load. However, the coil is not suitable for continuous use. I use them on a small electric go kart with a PWM controller that limits the current to 150 amps but rarely sees that much load. The first was wired for direct 12v control and the coil would burn out and short out fairly quickly. Assuming heating of the 4.5 ohm coil was the problem, I added a 30W 3 ohm resistor to reduce the coil's voltage. The second relay lasted longer but failed again, apparently due to an overheated coil. I will be ordering a third one as a temporary replacement until I find a replacement with a suitable rating.
