Review on Amprobe 37XR-A: Advanced True RMS Digital Multimeter with Component Logic Test by Daniel Aboubakar

Bigger than I thought but still ok

Amprobe 33XR-AFYI, this is a relatively large gauge, which of course is necessary because of the huge dial! Got this for about 1/3 the new price, thanks Revain Warehouse! At this price I just couldn't do without it. Sometimes you just want a portable meter, and that fits the bill perfectly. Of course, most auto-ranging meters have a manual mode, but it takes a lot of button presses to cycle through the ranges. This thing, bam, done. Some other things I like: - Velcro magnet is super cool to use on the panel! Every time I need to open the panel, I reach for this gauge! - Min/Max, Relative Mode, Peak + and - and Hold are pretty handy things depending on what you're doing. - The beep is quite loud, you can't miss it. - has a built-in stand, although maybe a little flimsy and narrow. Unfortunately this has some problems: - To measure capacitance you need to move the positive mA/uA probe. Plug. Also measuring a 10uF electrolytic capacitor took over 10 seconds! My other DMMs run for 3-5 seconds MAX, and my dedicated capacitance testers can do this in 1 second. So maybe it's not good for the electronics if you measure a lot of capacitors! - It has a position for the diode/continuity test, and maybe because it's common the continuity horn is SLOW. Almost a full second. The main disadvantage of this meter. The wires aren't silicone, so they're stiff and a bit annoying, but still of adequate quality. - For scale positions that require movement of the transducer, this is a totally missed color-coding opportunity. mA/μA/capacitance and 10A connectors are yellow. If only they matched the color of the letters on the dial and connectors, that would be a huge win. Although, as it is, no. Too bad. No carrying case, so what do I do with alligator clips and screw caps on probe tips (marked CAT.III 1000V and CAT.IV 600V)? Only one can be screwed at a time. Final answer: I'm happy to have a full-fledged handheld meter at a great price, but I also understand why the price is so good. UPDATE: up to 4 stars once I figure out this thing can measure up to 4MHz! It came in handy one day.
