Looks like I'll be forced to pay for a real one.

Return. While the lock nuts will fit the 2016 VW Touareg, the plastic caps that then snap onto the bolts will not. Called McGard and they said they don't make specific VW bolts, just universal ones. Looks like I'll have to pay for the original part. The attached image highlights the standard bold font on the left, the McGard-like stud on the right, and the plastic cap that should snap onto each stud at the top of the frame.
