A noticeable rumble began to appear from the front of our Ranier. This always signals a problem with the front wheel bearing. I don't understand why GM can't control metal or grease. Heck, even our old 2000 Olds Bravada went through multiple sets of bearings. In the old days (60's-70's) the front wheel bearings worked and were never changed. And if you replace them, it only costs about $10; not hundreds. Enough complained. I replaced both bearings with these Timken bearings. The project went well (I watched some videos on YouTube). I used a 1/2" Craftsman breakbar with a 1" aluminum tubular tie rod to remove the 35mm nut. I put my foot on the bar and it came off fairly easily. It was nice. Anytime I've removed wheels in the past, I've always sprayed oil on those threads. Ideal. Probably the hardest part was removing the old plastic ABS wire clips. Feel free to just cut them off with a box cutter and use a hole punch to open up the holes. New items come with built-in plastic clips for attachment. I did it in two steps. When I knew when the bearings would be delivered I jacked up the car and removed the old bearings, cleaned of rust etc and prepared for delivery. Foot on the crossbar to re-tighten the large nut. That's just common sense. If you don't have common sense, take it to the dealer and pay about $400 a side - for their "expertise". Anyway, after a month it's pretty quiet and the wheels haven't fallen off. By the way, these Timken bearing units are "Made in Korea". This was printed on the box and engraved on the wheel flange.
