Unfortunately, this 8-inch timer differs from the 3-inch timer in one important way. I'm actually returning this 8" timer (but I have five other 3" timers that I've kept and used for years). When you use the "Beep" horn on the 8" timer, it emits 4 annoyingly loud double beeps (ie 8 beeps total) which is very disruptive to the meeting; while the 3 inch timer only emits 1 soft beep when the alarm goes off - enough to notify but not enough to annoy or interrupt. and 8" timer by simply pressing the small switch to the on or off position. If you don't want to use the beeper function, the 3" timer and 8" timer are available except for the Exactly the same size, but if you plan on using the beep feature, note that you can't set the volume or number of beeps for any timer - you only have the default mode, as described in my #1 paragraph above.UPDATE.Some other reviews have stated that the alarm/alert has 1 beep, 2 beeps, 3 beeps, etc. When reading the review, be sure to read under the reviewer's name in blue font what size model they bought two models with an 8" timer - one with a top handle and one without. Mine doesn't have a top handle. I just checked the number of beeps on the 8" alarm/alert timer: it's exactly as I wrote it above - 4 double te beeps, ie beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep - they are loud - then it's all over.
