These look a lot like pencil sharpeners from my school days back in the 1960's. The main difference lies in the material they are made of. These vintage cars were HEAVY-DUTY sharpeners built to last for decades and countless noisy kids. And they REALLY went through it all! This, while being the same size, type and principle of operation as the older models, is made from a lighter material and is probably not as strong and reliable. However, this is a wonderful sharpener, does a fantastic job, is very inexpensive ($9.99 when I ordered), attaches securely and gives the user a perfectly sharpened pencil IF you follow the extremely helpful advice in the THOMAS review Follow CHICK . (first rating when sorting by "top ratings"). This review offers advice on how to overcome the unevenly sharpened pencil this device tends to produce. If you follow this advice, set the sharpener's level, and treat it with a small amount of TLC, you should be completely satisfied with the quality of this product and the result it produces. (I'm giving one star for imbalanced sharpening. While there is an EASY fix to the problem, if someone doesn't know this tip, this sharpener will likely be at least a little disappointing as it tends to be one-sided sharpening.)
