Review on ๐Ÿ” FRAM Extra Guard PH4386: Optimal Performance & Extended Mileage with 10K Mile Change Interval Spin-On Oil Filter by Dan Deng

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fram Ultra is the best oil filter according to Frams. Can increase engine life by 2x if true.

I do not include Amsoil products. They claim to be the best and they can be, but the price is too high. In 1988, GM tested particle size and engine life prior to overhaul. Removing 10-20 micron particles increased life from 150,000 miles (standard oil filter) to 400,000 miles (10-20 micron filters). So everything else stays the same, the oil change intervals are the same, the difference is only in the particle size. Ultrafilters have a synthetic media rather than a blend like Mobil 1. Mobil 1 are great filters but they don't advertise micron size and use a blended media. Filter and oil change intervals from 5 to 7 thousand. But with terrible quality control and a lack of accountability on the part of all car manufacturers, if the manufacturer didn't clean the engine block after machining and left a pile of metal there, it's recommended to use Fram Ultra. (For example Hyundai Kia and many engines built and assembled in China and installed in Big 3 and Toyota cars.) The only problem with these filters is a bent metal bypass element when the filter becomes clogged or the Engine has high pressure, like a cold early morning. Other filters use a spring. Perhaps the bent metal spring in them allows a large amount of oil to bypass the filter entirely. Finally, when choosing an oil filter, check how long it will last. These filters and mobil 1 filters are suitable for 20,000 km. Some filters only last 3000 km. If used after this time, they usually tear and allow all kinds of substances to pass through.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.
