Review on Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS), Individual by Tom Reasons

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Remote access worked, but Ubiquiti Data Breach lost remote access!

Honestly, when the leak occurred, Ubiquiti disabled remote access to protect clients. The only way to restore dial-up networking (Unifi) and video (Protect) is to reset all settings. I only had local access to the cloud key and lived with it for months - biting the bullet to try to restore remote access. Ubiquiti does not have the ability to connect a running, isolated (non-removed) cloud key to its "cloud" remote control panel. I had both web and SSH access to the Cloud Key and Security Gateway (USG). It should be possible, but tech support says you can easily reset your cloud key. They said that a simple configuration backup and restore should be good. NO - DO NOT DO THIS, archive all IP addresses, SSH keys, usernames/passwords for each device (camera, switch, access point, USG gateway/router). You should plan to configure everything from scratch (all networks, VLANs, IP address reservations, all switches, all cameras, etc.). In short, if you ever need to reset your cloud key. Let's say you need to reset all the devices on the network and you spend most of the day doing it! ) and started using them there. This process left me in bad taste and we will be more reluctant to recommend and use their gear to others. Today I spent too many hours reconnecting the cloud key to the Unifi panel (remote access). It's pretty smooth once you're up and running, but if you ever need to reset (due to something out of your control, like a Ubiquiti data leak) - what a mess! Just really pissed off that their software was making stupid assumptions and breaking things. - Doug
