Much more than expected

much more packed in a small package. good sensitivity. GPS is fast. DSC works fine. the instructions leave a lot to be desired (written by non-native speakers). If you have knowledge of electronics, it's very easy. As with all radios, use a good antenna. I love the options, and the settings and menus give you a lot if you decide to delve into them. Your MMSI number is ready when you turn it on for the first time. If you don't have an MMSI number, obtain one from Boatus.com: The Maritime Mobile Service Identifier (MMSI) is a unique 9-digit number assigned to a Digital Selective Calling (DSC) radio or AIS device. Like a mobile phone number, your MMSI number is your unique phone number for your DSC radio or AIS device. The information provided upon receipt of an MMSI number is transmitted to the US Coast Guard's national maritime distress database for use in emergencies. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the US Coast Guard have authorized BoatUS to assign vessels with DSC MMSI numbers. capable radio stations that are not required by law to have a radio station and do not fly or communicate internationally. BoatUS is responsible for submitting MMSI registration information to the US Coast Guard for search and rescue purposes. MMSI numbers are free for BoatUS members or $25 for non-members.
