I have a Canon 5DS-R body that I bought with a Canon 24-70 F2.8l II lens when I started out as a hobbyist. I put the hobby (life matters) aside for the time being and decided to get everything out of the safe and start years later. I've always thought that if you have a zoom lens you've covered all your bases in focal length and you do, but for portraits and subjects you want to stand out from the background, zoom lenses don't offer the same amount of separation down into a blurry one Background. I settled on a 50mm prime lens and didn't want to spend a lot of money just to see if the difference was worth the investment and I can tell you it is. The bokeh is phenomenal on a prime lens and the difference between day and night. I accidentally bought this lens as I wasn't planning on buying the international version, but the lens is the same as the US version with the only difference being that here in the US you can't warranty repair the lens like I can it understand. This lens is very quiet and takes great photos for the price and I am happy with my purchase and saved a lot of money compared to the L series. I'm new to this hobby and definitely not a pro and right now I can't tell the difference between a $1350 lens and this $125 lens. This lens is very light compared to the 24-70 lens I currently have and I will probably keep this lens on my body from now on. This is a great lens, especially for the money, and would be a smart buy if you want to test the prime lens niche without throwing a ton of cash away. The photo of our new pup was taken wide open at 1.8 and the blur starts very quickly. If you're looking away from your right eye, you probably should have taken this shot at 2.8 or maybe 3.5 to sharpen the face, but you get the idea. Maybe someday I'll settle for this L-series lens, but for the beginner hobbyist, this lens will work well for me for the foreseeable future. Buy it, you won't regret it!
