Nifty Fifty on Camera & Photo

Despite being a fixed focal length lens with no stabilization, it's great for portraiture and even videotaping in certain situations. You get that amazing bokeh (depth of field) that people love. It's so small and light that it adds almost no weight to your camera, making it very easy to use. Definitely a must see, especially if you are new to photography.

  • Cool Product
Cons
  • No Performance

Great lens and UV filter. Lens cleaner is cheap.

The lens is excellent. I've found myself using this more than most applications over the years. Unfortunately my old one broke and I had to replace it. I like the UV lens, fits well. Lens cleaner is very cheap. One end is a brush, the other just an open-pored foam tip. The plastic end holding it comes off. My other lens cleaner had a special carbon tip, I expected the same from this one.

The slim Canon 50 works as intended.

As an aspiring photographer, I'm learning how to use this pretty little lens. This forces me to take my time and frame the shots, rather than "fooling" myself into using the zoom to frame the subject of my photo. With this lens, photos on the T6 are excellent. The little cleaning pen that comes with it is amazing. I would prefer if the pen had a brush on one end and a felt circle on the other. The spray doesn't do much for me.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Form not required

An excellent lens for up close and personal observation for its price!

I was very impressed with the quality of the images captured with this lens. For the price it looks like a budget lens but the image sharpness was amazing. You need to know what you are doing and how to use a lens like this to get great sharp images. They've settled in surprisingly well. Perfect for newborn photography! When I zoomed in on my computer after the newborn photo shoot, I could see every detail.

Beginner Criticism: I love it!

This is my first prime lens and I really like it. The portraits are fantastic, as are the close-ups of people. I used it to shoot a friend's dimly lit wedding reception and got some great shots. It's a tighter field than I'm used to, but group photos looked cozy when everything needed to be squeezed. I think it's a great tool to improve your photography over the standard set. I now carry this lens with my camera all the time.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Too stupid

Great value for money for camera and photo

This lens is very good and cheap (compared to other lenses) and does the job very well. If you want to do portrait photography, you can use it to get a very nice bokeh. The lens is very sharp at f/2.8 and pretty sharp at f/1.8! Overall, this lens is great for portrait photography! Note that when using an Ape-C censored camera, the total focal length of this lens is 80mm, not 50mm. If you use it with 5d Mark II for example, it's a 50mm lens. (To find out, just do it on 50x1.6, you can do it with

General review from an amateur.

Please note that it is not fixed when installed. More friction than my original plastic mount zoom lens. Surveillance is above everything. No amazing focus. No better than my original lenses. I rather suspect that it is s.der Camera. If I understand correctly you don't get a 50mm image format without a full frame sensor. Pretty narrow picture. Close-up with a very short focal length. A flower is out of focus on his pedals. Not surprisingly fast. For indoor nighttime shots with ambient light…

Best bang for the dollar period!

I have a Canon 5DS-R body that I bought with a Canon 24-70 F2.8l II lens when I started out as a hobbyist. I put the hobby (life matters) aside for the time being and decided to get everything out of the safe and start years later. I've always thought that if you have a zoom lens you've covered all your bases in focal length and you do, but for portraits and subjects you want to stand out from the background, zoom lenses don't offer the same amount of separation down into a blurry one…

Pros
  • This is awesome
Cons
  • Some bugs
