This lens is very good and cheap (compared to other lenses) and does the job very well. If you want to do portrait photography, you can use it to get a very nice bokeh. The lens is very sharp at f/2.8 and pretty sharp at f/1.8! Overall, this lens is great for portrait photography! Note that when using an Ape-C censored camera, the total focal length of this lens is 80mm, not 50mm. If you use it with 5d Mark II for example, it's a 50mm lens. (To find out, just do it on 50x1.6, you can do it with any lens.) Hope I helped!
