My old tower fan had a built-in filter and I really liked that. Have two cats and a dog so a filter is a must. When my old fan died the new one I bought didn't have a built in filter so I bought this product. It was surprisingly easy to install and the quality doesn't ruin the look of my new tower fan. Works great, effortlessly removes dust and pet hair. I also took it off to wash and it still looks brand new. Airflow has decreased a bit, but it's a good trade-off to extend my fan's lifespan and reduce dust and hair kick-ups. UPDATE: I recently got a second tower fan as a gift and the first thing I ordered was another Pollentec. Filter. Having used my first fan for 7 months I cannot say enough good things about these filters. They trap so much pollen, pet dander and dust that it's amazing. In the case of allergies, this is very important. Installing these filters only takes a few minutes. The reduction in airflow is minimal and not very noticeable. They're so easy to clean. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I'll try the box fan filter.
