Review on Khadas Board Resolution Audio Generic by Drake Burroughs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Too good for $ on Home Audio

I first listened to this on a friend's system. Compared to a few other DACs (including my own Schiit Bitfrost, as well as a few other similarly priced devices) the KTB had some flash, panache, and panache that others didn't have. And then my friend mentioned the price! So I ordered one as well as a Pi 4 and it works with Volumio through an old iPad. I use it to power my Ancient Hi-Fi system (tube and horn speakers from the early 60's and home made 2A3 and 300B amps. Noah probably had a similar system on his ark) and I'm with pretty happy with the sound. I removed my CD players and CDs (after copying them to flac). Cons: The KTB is so tiny that the patch cords will pull it right off the table. A 250 gram brass weight on the body (case sold separately) solved this problem. I've read that if the KTB is turned on AFTER you've turned on the rest of your system, it will produce a loud POP tone through your speakers or banks. I haven't experienced this because I turn on my amp after turning on the Pi board and the audio. And for those of you who love shiny, snazzy-looking hardware, the KTB is just a small circuit board with a couple of RCA jacks - it won't dazzle visually. If these things don't bother you, I recommend this combo, and for the money you really can't do better (my opinion as of 05/08/2020).

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some little things
