This is a budget NAS. This allows you to store files on your hard drive independently of your computer so that you can access them on your network. You can also open a port on your router and access files from anywhere over the internet. Although this is a budget item, it has some pretty fancy software. You can even open and edit Office files, read PDFs, etc. You can use it as a secure Dropbox replacement, backup, or cloud. Almost anything a NAS can do, you can do too. The downside is that there is a bit of a learning curve. But that goes for all of these full-featured devices. No RAID it's just one disk. I put the SSD in the bay and sealed it with tape. If there were a few extra holes in the rails I could screw it in, but inexplicably there are no holes (you can buy a kit haha). There are no problems with a full-size drive. I was willing to turn off the fan, but the stock fan is very quiet, so well done. USB, but not USB3, in case that matters. It really lacks the power to transcode media in realtime, but I don't. Overall, it works great, transfers files quickly, and has a lot of features. Construction is a bit plasticky, but there are solid ports where it counts. Not bad!
