Review on Efficient Wera 056490 Tool-Check Plus Set: Metric Bit Ratchet & Socket Kit by Fred Whitehead

High quality but mysteriously missing common small sizes

It is very well designed and shows high quality. I use it for car interiors and electronics. It's missing 4 and 4.5mm jack sockets, which I'd rather include as those sizes are used in automotive electronics. It includes sockets at the large end of the range such as 12mm and 13mm where a regular 1/4 drive ratchet would be acceptable or even preferable as the included ratchet and screwdriver are quite small and better suited for small fasteners. I wish it would focus on being fuller on the small end of the range rather than trying to get the large sizes where the small ratchet and driver would struggle to provide enough torque. Another odd choice is that it doesn't include a bit for the commonly seen P0 but wastes space as the size overlaps with both Torx and Security Torx when the Security Torx bit works great with a regular Torx socket. With hex bits it goes up to 6mm which is a fairly large hex (like a bike handlebar clamp) but not the 1.5mm and 2.0mm used with M2 to some M4 mounts. To emphasize that commonly used small sizes are not used to make room for large sizes and unnecessary duplicates. However, this is a really well designed and high quality tool despite the complex array of tools it contains. This is a true luxury instrument. Even on sale at $60 it is very expensive but it is a pleasure to use given its easy access, bits and sockets, its security in a well designed case when not in use and its small size Size.
