Review on ๐Ÿšซ TomTom XL 340S: Discontinued 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator by Manufacturer by Simo Whisperer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Inaccurate: I should have looked at more

I had a hard time deciding on a GPS unit when I saw this one with a good rating from Consumer Reports. I thought they were all the same. I haven't used it that much, mainly to navigate country ball games. However, the very first day I received it, I decided to see how it would take me to high school, where I would take the familiar path. The start was ok. Then he told me to turn right onto a certain street. The name said nothing but I figured the GPS might have meant the shortest route. Big. As soon as I turned around, I realized that this was the dead end I had been on before. He asks me to turn left. Am I missing something? I drive to the end. No, it's a dead end, it's ok. I went back to the original road and everything was fine until the end of the trail. I did notice, however, that he was a bit unable to tell where I was. He tells me to turn around as I'm right at the intersection. It tells me I'm 250 feet from my destination (including the house) when I'm definitely there. After getting it, I came across an online review (PC World?) that mentioned the problem of imprecise verbal instructions. I'll keep trying and hope it's not useless, but I don't feel so confident about using it. I can add that with the latest maps loading (did the joker add a dead end?) the setup took quite a while and wasn't without reboots and hassles.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Update availability
