Despite the many stripes in the kit, I can never do just one test. In 25% of the cases, the color change behaves strangely. Sometimes there are spots of different colors on the pads. Yes, I follow the instructions. The pH test is the most unreliable of all, typically reading 6.5-7. A reliable API water test kit (pipette version, not strips) will always show a pH of 7.8-8. I would trust the test. Nitrite and nitrate for a rough estimate, but kh and gh seem pretty weird too as the results vary from band to band.
