Review on πŸš— Enhanced Engine Performance with Walker Exhaust 21665 Resonator by Jared Coleman

Quality control challenge!

First of all for those who think I bought the wrong part. (Revane says "It doesn't fit your G-6". Go here: [.] The car is a 2009 Pontiac G6 base with a 3.5L engine. Walker says it's the right part And it's "almost" like that. "And, I installed it on the car. And I think it will work perfectly. But it wasn't easy. I used a battery-powered saw to remove the old resonator and... to maximize the length of pipe that is left after careful and careful sawing. Then problems started. 1. The inlet end came in an out-of-round condition. No, it didn't look damaged in transit. But it was slightly oval, with about 1 /4" between the minimum and maximum inside diameters. Yes, that's a no, it definitely won't slip onto the cat's outlet tube. I rented a tube expanding tool from CLOSE and used it to slightly increase the diameter of the resonator's inlet tube when I was of oval back to work.ok, it works rt, it fits well and snugly, but all can still be removed. Perfect. In the end it was finished off with a standard D 2.5 inch exhaust collar.2. outlet pipe. How painful! It was too short, 1.5 inches I think. And it was slightly out of round (not as much as the entrance). And it was carelessly cut to length with some sort of torch, leaving a rough metal edge. And also. (grrr) the diameter was too small so it fit very loosely in the existing pipe. I had to weld on an extension I made from a piece of pipe to fix an exhaust pipe with a 2" ID. By using another expansion tool on the resonator exit I was able to secure a tight fit on the extension which I then screwed in place and Spot welded. The 2" ID extension fitted the remaining muffler intake pipe fairly snugly with a little adjustment. A little welding, a yoke (2 and 1/8" not the 2.25" shown by Walker) and finished. Before installing the resonator but after I welded on the extension cord I noticed a rattling noise when I touched it. Looking at the output end I saw an internal perforated core which was unreliable. I had to use one Wire welders crawl into the tube to attach some small beads where the center core touched the body.No more rattling. That's why three stars because I couldn't give a 2.5 ko nne. The hangers are well spaced and properly fastened. The main body tube seems sturdy. But come on Walker! Clearly many factors were missing from this detail. Too short (design or manufacturing defect) Out of round (manufacturing, QC) Loose core tubing (manufacturing, QC) I wish I had measured the overall length before welding to see if it was within the stated spec, 32.750 inches. But I didn't, and Pontiac is back in the ranks. I have used Tenneco products with confidence in the past. The project immediately prior to the exhaust system rebuild was the installation of the left and right Quick Strut units. They fit well and were easy to install. I like these. 5 stars for them.
