Review on Elegant Aliform Monarch Moving Butterfly by Jay Aukuso

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fairly realistic animatronic butterfly (requires computer)

Okay, that's pretty nice. This is a great gift for those who keep flowers next to their computer at work and anywhere else the computer can be used throughout the day. As noted by some reviewers, it came with a USB port. It's not just a power outlet. If your computer is operational (should be initially connected to the internet I believe) the driver will be downloaded and installed automatically when you connect this device. In fact, there is software that controls a butterfly's wings and simulates realistic movements. There's even a certain randomness to it. It won't work if you just plug it into a USB charging port (power only) or a power adapter that offers a USB connection. Motion stops when the computer turns off, goes to sleep, or enters hibernation. But for an office computer that's always on, it's great. The butterfly will wake up and get back to its work as soon as your computer is up and running again. It's beautiful to look at. It catches the eye, and while you know it's fake, it's realistic enough that for a moment you feel like you've been blessed with a real and gentle being. My wife loves butterflies. Give it a little exercise and it's special. We have it in the kitchen on a flower in a vase full of flowers (most often they are fake too). I finally found an old (XP-based) netbook to put out of sight in a nearby closet, and here it is. We have our own "thrills". Yes, the product description does not describe the USB connection or any other details. Even their website only talks about one type of power supply. The USB product must be a new generation. This is not a cheap item if you dedicate a computer to it and have to keep it on all the time. But if the computer is there and turned on, why not? That's a great conversation. I bet it's a stress reliever too. I can't say how long this can go on. The design is quite simple. We are happy.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as the other options
