Review on Monoprice Inserts Solid Ethernet Cable by Jacob Ashman

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Cleverly designed waste of time AND reduced performance and reliability!

I am absolutely amazed at the positive reviews for these connectors, at least 23g solid copper cat. - They are SLOW to install - I can strip the jacket, sort and cut the conductors and a standard plug is about 45 seconds of crimping - faster than I can take a step to thread 8 individual conductors through the insert onto it. - I've tried crimping them with high quality crimping tools from different brands and they keep failing to make good mechanical connections, even when used with Monoprice's own brand cables; As a result, in real-world conditions, the jacket tends to stretch out from the body. It was such a constant problem that I assumed I MUST have connected it incorrectly, but I confirmed that I had followed the manufacturer's installation instructions in the email. They do not provide a reliable electrical connection. About a third of the time on switches of different brands, my connections dropped to 10/100. The locking tabs are fragile and prone to breakage. I've practically NEVER had any of those last three problems with standard connectors. , IMO, is that it's an idiot's attempt to defend standard design against idiocy, and an archetypal example of why "if it ain't broke, you shouldn't fix it".
