I have had a 29 gallon tank for about 10 years and have always preferred this cap. The fit of the glass to the tank is perfect, it looks stylish and the plastic on the back is easy to trim to accommodate the filter/vent tubes and slides easily over the back of the glass. I have followed the instructions for sticking the grip (24 hour do not disturb!) in addition to cleaning with alcohol before sticking and the grip has always been very strong. Sometimes algae build up in the lid after a while, but that was easily removed as long as I kept up. Manufacturer faults: 1. My first hood ripped when I accidentally stepped on the floor while it was folded (cleaning the tank at the time). Glass breaks safely - mostly stays together in large cracks and does not break into small fragments. My leg was unharmed from the incident and the canopy *can* still be used with some unsightly tape to hold it together until I get another one.2. The second dome accompanied me for about four years. My aquarium was next to a scratching post so my kittens could enjoy the view of the swimming fish. My newest cat, who was about 1.5 years old at the time and weighed 15 pounds, grew up walking/sitting on the canopy lid when people weren't paying attention to her. He descended from the scratching post to the canopy many times throughout the year, but one day he had a strange moment and jumped in the air and crashed into the canopy with his accelerated weight. The results weren't the best - a wet cat (who finally learned her lesson!), several terrified fish (who all made it), and the front of the dome split into four pieces, two of which broke off completely and drowned . to the bottom of the tank. After going through two of them and needing another one, I decided to buy the same shed again. Why? It fits the tank perfectly, has proved to me many times that it takes a lot of work before it fails and if it ever fails the glass seems sure to break. The latest model I received seems exactly the same as the others and I believe it will be a strong and secure lid for both my aquarium dwellers and those crazy creatures that live outside.
