Review on 8-Piece Compression Tester Set for Petrol Gas Engines – Cylinder Pressure Gauge Kit by Ryan Cornelius

Quick Release Hose Leaking Air Pressure

This compression tester was purchased to replace a 25 year old compression tester that did not have 4 different spark plug thread sizes. Also included was a handy molded box to protect the gauge and keep all the components together. However, the new pressure gauge and hose have a convenient quick-disconnect feature that allows for quicker installation of the connector adapter, hose and pressure gauge. The first time I used it, I found that the quick-release hose didn't hold the pressure. For example, my old pressure gauge and hose are screwed together with conical pipe threads, as is the spark plug adapter. It can register 95psi on the cylinder head, while the new gauge only reads 25psi. I've swapped spark plug adapters and new and old gauges back and forth, leaving the air leak in the hose, more specifically the quick disconnect between the hose and gauge. Needless to say, this is the polar opposite of good. Keep searching. There are other similar pressure kits on the market, pay a little more and get one with a more reliable quick release. I would not buy this set again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Good but not great
