It worked right away! He didn't even have to sit in the sun to get energy. My only advice would be to not buy this if your birdbath is a bit small. We are about 14 inches in diameter and on a windy day the jet of water blows the water right out of the tub. We ran out of water after 15 minutes. My solution was to not mount the atomizer so that it only bubbles an inch or two and stays in the tub.
