Having had an older Sony Vaio with an internal optional drive on a flasher for a few years, I sometimes need it but need to have one that has an extra power cable to another USB or 110 port volts has . And to my surprise it's a true USB 3 and the other end of the first power cable is eSata and not most that have mini USB. It's true USB 3.0 with added power management built in, this drive works great with just one cable! The disc's satin finish is excellent, as is the build quality. Unobtrusively integrated rubber bumpers keep the drive in place. The speed with which Win 7 Ultimate recognized the drive and installed the drivers was very good. Remember that you also need to install drivers to determine your location in order to watch movies on the disc. And thanks to USB 3.0, there is no latency. All in all, a very good offer for use on newer desktops that no longer have internal optical drives. On newer builds you can use the motherboard DVD that comes with MoBo to at least install the LAN driver so you can connect to the internet and installing your operating system (Win 10) will be much easier. And you will have a newer BIOS driver on the DVD than on the new build.
