Review on Dorman 604 116 Air Door Actuator by Eddie Breezy

Problems with the air source flap? Get this.

The air source door operator on my 1998 GMC Sierra was going crazy. This is a door that controls either the supply of outside air or recirculation air. It's also the most troublesome of the drives to replace; The truck was built around this actuator and you will throw all sorts of curses at the constructors who caused this havoc over humanity. But I digress. I'm just warning you You know when those servo motor driven drives are biting the dust because you can hear them constantly spinning and with that I could hear the choke opening and closing as well. You can find several OEM parts for the drive and get a genuine GM Delco part. The Dorman part was the cheapest and was made in Korea. From previous experience I knew that the original GM Delco part, the most expensive, will most likely come from China. And while I'd rather put Delco parts in my GM truck, I'm tired of sending my money to China and getting poor quality and durability. I have had experience with a Dorman replacement wiper control board made in Korea which has lasted the longest compared to the factory original. So I settled on the Dorman part. Although the Dorman replacement drive case is slightly different from the factory original, it fits perfectly and performs exactly like the original. Make sure you select the correct drive if you need to replace it. There are three of these on my A/C truck and while they appear to be the same, each is slightly different. Installation instructions are not included with the Dorman part; I have the factory manual. You need to "index" the drive. Before installing a new drive, connect the power cord to the drive. Don't put it up, just let it hang. Connect the battery (which you really want to disconnect if doing this work or electrical work on your truck). , turn the key to the "ON" position and set the "Recirculation" knob to the fresh air setting and make sure the temperature switch is *not* in the A/C "MAX" mode. This will ensure that the actuator is set to the correct 'fresh air' position and you leave the air damper in the closed 'fresh air' position (easier to install). The Dorman drive has now been in use for about 6 weeks and is working great. .
