I had no voltage on the cable in the connector. I cut the connector and found that the wire was not inserted into the terminal as you can see in the photo, its length was not enough to reach the terminal. Instead of replacing the connector, I soldered a short piece of wire and then used JB Weld to reseal the connector. Now it works fine. Keep in mind that this wire is lightweight and will not withstand severe pulling or abuse. Also, a possible problem is how the lights are attached to the plastic bodywork with carriage bolts, as they don't stand up to much abuse either. This kit is inexpensive and works great for my purpose which is not a trailer but a wooden box (only used occasionally) to attach my load hitch. My wooden box is blocking the car's taillights and license plate so I attached it to the back of the wooden box and I just have to move the license plate from the car to the included license plate bracket. If I had to buy headlights for a boat trailer I would like something more durable.
