I bought this for my zebra finches. They are notorious for flapping and flying around their cage and throwing debris out of the cage. Didn't realize it had two separate compartments, bonus. I am transitioning her from a seed mix to a higher quality dry food diet. With two compartments I have both foods and I can easily see if they are both eating foods which they are doing. The tray collects most of the waste I give to wild birds to process. All seed eaters will choose their favorite seeds and keep or remove from their feeder the seeds they don't want to eat. This ends up in the catch basket and is eaten by wild birds in seconds! Once connected to the door, I secured it with the supplied screw and washer. There's really no reason to remove it once in place. The drip pan is easy to remove and replace, and the feeder fills from the top. It's a very nice design and I have no hesitation in recommending this feeder. My birds got used to it very quickly.
